Rasmus Gren Havmoller, a PhD student was focused on conservation and ecology at the University of Copenhagen. He found that the Sumatran Rhino was in danger of extinction. These Sumatran rhinos are the oldest of their species and are known to roam in Southeast Asia. Moreover, these rhinos have been completely extinct in Malaysia and very few exist in other parts of the world. There are 9 Sumatran rhinos in captivity. Furthermore, there has been several methods implemented to protect these rhinos. For instance, a metapopulation strategy has been played in effect. this means that that although you have rhinos in three separate wild populations, you consider them all one. This will increase population and genetic diversity.
